Cross-reference

Equity Language Commons

Every progressive equity-language style guide says something a little different. This commons puts them next to each other — per term, by year, with the source's own words — so you can see where they agree, where they disagree, and what's shifted since 2013.

How to read an entry

  1. Each term page shows every source organization's ruling — quote, year, page reference, and a position badge (use / use-with-care / non-preferred / avoid / contested / evolving).
  2. Sources are sorted chronologically so you can see how the term has moved over time.
  3. Jordan Krueger's synthesis paragraphs identify the cross-source pattern — where guides agree, where they diverge, and what's shifting.
  4. Every quote is under 50 words (fair-use safety margin). Every quote cites org, year, and source URL or archive reference.

Status

This is a build-in-progress. Phases 0 and 1 are complete — research, schema design, and three pressure-tested test terms (Latinx, unhoused/homeless, Indigenous). Phase 2 is the public site you're reading now. Phase 3 is bulk term indexing.

Terms, sources, and chapters that don't yet have content are shown as visually-dimmed "planned" stubs. They signal scope and invite contributors.
